EFCC Warns: Yahoo Boys Now Involved in Ritual Killings, Banditry
The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has revealed shocking details about the evolving activities of internet fraudsters, commonly known as Yahoo boys.
Speaking at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, Olukoyede disclosed that Nigeria lost over $500 million in just one year due to cyber fraud.
However, he warned that these fraudsters are now moving beyond online scams into kidnapping, ritual killings, and arms trafficking.
“Yahoo Yahoo” Has Taken a Deadly Turn
Olukoyede stressed that the EFCC’s crackdown on cybercriminals is not just about stopping fraud but also curbing serious security threats.
“Some people criticize us for targeting Yahoo boys, but they don’t understand how serious the problem has become. These fraudsters are now engaging in ritual killings and banditry. Some cases we’ve uncovered involve young women being used for rituals. If we don’t act now, the future of our country is at risk,” he warned.
EFCC’s Internal Clean-Up & Call for Media Support
The EFCC chairman also highlighted efforts to eliminate corruption within the agency, revealing that 27 staff members were dismissed over corruption allegations in the past year.
“You cannot fight corruption while being corrupt. I challenge anyone to provide evidence that I have ever taken a bribe. Integrity is the foundation of this fight,” he stated.
Olukoyede urged the media to support anti-corruption efforts, recalling how investigative journalism played a major role in exposing financial crimes before the EFCC was established.
“The media and law enforcement must work together to protect Nigeria. We need more investigative journalism to expose corruption and inform the public,” he added.
A Nationwide Call for Action
The EFCC is calling on Nigerians to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and support law enforcement in the fight against cybercrime and related criminal activities.
