The former Deputy Governor of Rivers State and current Senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District, Senator Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, was noticeably absent alongside three other lawmakers during a crucial meeting between the Rivers State caucus in the National Assembly and the State’s Sole Administrator, Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.
The meeting took place at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Other absent lawmakers included Hon. Awaji Inombek Abiante (Opobo/Nkoro/Andoni Federal Constituency), Hon. Allison Anderson (Okrika/Ogu-Bolo Federal Constituency), and Hon. Boma Goodhead (Akuku-Toru Federal Constituency).
Ibas Outlines Development Plans
Addressing the legislators, Vice Admiral Ibas (rtd) assured that the Rivers State 2025 Appropriation Bill was being carefully structured to focus on key development sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure.
He emphasized that the budget aims to create employment opportunities for the people of Rivers and drive technological advancements in public services.
Ibas stated that since assuming office, his primary goal has been to restore law and order in Rivers State. He praised the efforts of security agencies in ensuring that citizens feel safe and valued.
Commitment to Economic Growth and Stability
Vice Admiral Ibas reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to economic stability, stressing that the new budget will address urgent developmental needs.
“Following the Supreme Court verdict on the state’s budget, we acted swiftly to prepare a new budget that aligns with our commitment to healthcare, education, social services, and infrastructure. Our goal is to ensure that Rivers State progresses without further delays,” Ibas stated.
He added that the budget prioritizes job creation and key investments in agriculture, infrastructure, and technology. He called for the support of Rivers legislators in securing resources and legislative backing to implement these plans effectively.
Legislators Pledge Support
Senator Barinada Mpigi, representing Rivers South-East District, reaffirmed the caucus’ commitment to the state’s development. He commended Ibas for his leadership and assured him of the federal legislators’ cooperation in restoring law and order in Rivers State.
“We stand united in ensuring that Rivers State continues on a path of peace and development,” Mpigi assured.
With the state still recovering from political instability, Ibas noted that dialogue, community engagement, and reconciliation remain critical in rebuilding trust among citizens.
He praised the resilience of Rivers residents and promised continued efforts to create a more stable and prosperous state.
