The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has granted landowners in the Maitama II District, Abuja, a last opportunity to settle unpaid bills for their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O). Owners of 762 plots in the area have been given a two-week deadline, which ends on January 3, 2025, to pay, or risk losing their land titles.
In a statement released on Friday by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Wike stressed that the government’s main goal is to ensure that payments are made, not to take away people’s land. He reminded the landowners that, following an initial deadline in October 2024, many had already paid, but 762 plots remained unpaid. A notice was issued to withdraw their Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) titles, but in response to requests, the government has now offered an additional two-week grace period.
The FCT Minister emphasized that after January 3, 2025, there would be no further extensions, and the land titles of defaulters would be permanently revoked.
