A woman, Sarah Ayinde, is currently at large after allegedly setting her husband, Abidemi Ayinde, a special constable with the Ogun State Police Command, on fire during a domestic dispute in the Iperu area of Ogun State on December 12, 2024.
Sources close to the matter, who wish to remain anonymous, shared that the argument between the couple, initially trivial, escalated, prompting the wife to set her husband ablaze in retaliation. The victim, Abidemi Ayinde, was rushed to Bolawatife Hospital and is now in stable condition.
The Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a phone interview, revealing that it took place around 10:00 a.m. on December 12, 2024, at No. 20 Igboore Street in Iperu. She added that the police constable was immediately hospitalized for treatment following the attack.
The police are actively searching for Sarah Ayinde, who remains on the run. The police division’s crime branch is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
This incident echoes a similar case from October 2019, when a police officer from the Lagos State Highway Patrol tragically took his own life after fatally shooting his wife during an argument.
