In a thoughtful move to support candidates sitting for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Enugu State Government has officially cancelled its usual environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025.
This announcement was made public by Professor Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, in a statement released on Tuesday.
According to him, the decision was taken to ease movement for UTME candidates and ensure a smooth and stress-free examination process across the state.
“There will be no restriction of movement this Saturday,” Prof. Onyia confirmed. However, he encouraged residents to still take responsibility for their environment by cleaning their surroundings despite the cancellation.
The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), is set to commence on April 24 across the nation.
Over 2 million candidates—specifically 2,030,627—are registered to participate in this year’s exam. Notably, among them are 41,026 candidates below the age of 16.
The state government’s decision is seen as a supportive gesture to help students reach their exam centers with ease and without the usual limitations that accompany sanitation days.
