Unknown Gunmen Strike Again in Abia, Metro Policeman Feared Dead.

Policeman Feared Dead as Gunmen Attack Checkpoint in Abia State

An unidentified police officer was reportedly killed, and another injured, during an attack on a police checkpoint in the Ohafia area of Abia State on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Ugwu Abba Asaga, but the Abia State Police Command has yet to release an official statement. ASP Maureen Chinaka, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, assured reporters that she would provide details but had not done so at the time of this report.

The Abia State government recently attributed the surge in kidnappings and attacks on civilians and security personnel to unnamed politicians and external forces.

In a statement by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the government pledged to hold those fueling insecurity accountable.

However, John Okiyi Kalu, a PDP chieftain and former Commissioner for Trade and Investment, criticized the government for politicizing insecurity, calling for practical measures to address the issue.

This attack is the latest in a string of violent incidents in Abia State, raising concerns about the region’s security situation.
