Two Workers Die After Falling Into Diesel Reservoir in Lagos

A tragic incident occurred in the Ikosi, Oregun area of Lagos State, as two workers lost their lives after falling into a diesel tank.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), one of the workers accidentally slipped into the tank while on duty. The second worker, in an attempt to save his colleague, also fell into the reservoir.

In a statement issued by Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, it was revealed that emergency responders were alerted via the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency Lines at 10:37 a.m.

The agency’s Tiger Response Team promptly arrived at the scene by 10:47 a.m.

Rescue Efforts and Tragic Outcome
Although the two victims were quickly rescued and transported to the hospital, they succumbed to their injuries despite all medical efforts to save them.

“Preliminary investigations showed that one adult male fell into the diesel reservoir during work, and another adult male, attempting a rescue, also fell.

Both victims were later pronounced dead at the hospital,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.

Preventing Future Incidents
LASEMA has since assessed the scene to determine measures that can prevent similar incidents in the future.

This unfortunate event underscores the need for stricter safety measures at work environments involving hazardous materials.
