Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to issue an executive order to delay the enforcement of a TikTok ban, proposing that the United States secure a 50% ownership stake in the app’s American subsidiary.
In a statement shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump explained his vision for a joint venture where the U.S. would hold half of the ownership.
“I want the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture,” he stated.
He also noted that the executive order would extend the timeframe for implementing the law banning the video-sharing app, providing an opportunity to finalize an agreement.
Trump elaborated, saying, “My initial idea is for a joint venture between the current owners and/or new stakeholders, allowing the U.S. to claim a 50% ownership share in collaboration with a purchaser we select.”
This move highlights his strategic approach to addressing concerns about TikTok’s ownership while potentially fostering U.S. involvement in its operations.
