In the late hours of New Year’s Eve, a devastating accident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway disrupted celebrations as three individuals sustained serious injuries. The incident occurred near the Agbo-Malu area in Age-mowo at approximately 11:36 p.m., involving a Renault trailer, a Toyota Camry, and a Lexus car.
According to Mr. William Manga, the Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), five people were involved in the crash. While two escaped unhurt, three others were not so fortunate. Emergency responders swiftly arrived on the scene just 10 minutes after being alerted and transported the injured to the Lagos State Mobile Clinic for urgent medical care.
Preliminary investigations by the FRSC revealed that the accident was caused by loss of control and lack of concentration while driving. The Renault trailer, bearing license plate BK 672 RB, collided with the Toyota Camry (JJJ 574 JP) and the Lexus car, which reportedly had no license plate.
Following the incident, the affected vehicles were promptly cleared from the road to ease traffic flow. Speaking on the matter, Commander Manga emphasized the importance of road safety, urging passengers to actively caution drivers against speeding and advising motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially on one-lane sections of the expressway.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to ensuring safer roads, but stressed that road users must do their part by adhering to traffic regulations and maintaining vigilance behind the wheel.
