A joyful Boxing Day turned tragic as a fatal road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed two lives and left 15 others injured. The crash occurred at Saapade, Ogun State, involving a Toyota Hiace bus carrying 18 passengers.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Florence Okpe, the accident happened around 4:34 p.m. on Thursday due to a tyre burst, which caused the driver to lose control. The bus somersaulted, leading to the unfortunate incident.
The passengers included nine men, five women, two boys, and two girls. Among them, 15 suffered various injuries and were rushed to PATMAG Hospital in Ogere for treatment. Sadly, a man and a woman lost their lives and have been taken to the morgue at the State General Hospital, Isara.
FRSC Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin extended his condolences to the affected families and advised drivers to prioritize vehicle maintenance, especially during the busy festive season.
