Tragic Accident in Onitsha: Six Dead as Truck Loses Control

A fatal road accident at Upper Iweka, Onitsha, has claimed the lives of six people after a truck lost control and crashed into pedestrians and multiple vehicles.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident, which occurred on Saturday, March 16, 2025.

Police Confirm Casualties and Ongoing Investigation

According to Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), the accident involved a truck that rammed into two tricycles and a commercial bus filled with passengers.

The crash left six people dead and several others injured.

“The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue, while injured victims are currently receiving treatment in the hospital,” Ikenga stated.

Condolences and Call for Road Safety

The Anambra Police Command extended its condolences to the families of the victims and assured the public of a thorough investigation.

Ikenga also urged drivers to carry out safety checks before hitting the road to prevent similar tragic accidents.

“We remind all motorists of the importance of proper vehicle maintenance and responsible driving to avoid unnecessary loss of lives,” he added.
