A peaceful farming community in Ondo State has been thrown into shock and grief after the brutal murder of a well-known 60-year-old farmer, Mrs. Adelugba, by her own labourer.
From Loyalty to Betrayal
Mrs. Adelugba, a respected farmer in Láòsò, near Laje Camp in Ondo West Local Government Area, had employed the suspect, who lived with her at the farm settlement.
Their working relationship took a dark turn when she caught him stealing kola nuts from one of her farms.
Knowing that theft in the village carried severe consequences, including banishment, the labourer pleaded for her forgiveness, offering to either repay the stolen kola or have it deducted from his wages. Out of kindness, Mrs. Adelugba accepted his plea.
However, what seemed like a resolved issue took a tragic twist. On Saturday, the labourer trailed the farmer to her farm and attacked her with a machete, killing her in cold blood. He then tried to cover up the crime by hiding her body under leaves and palm fronds before fleeing.
Confession and Arrest
Hours later, the labourer confessed to the crime, claiming he feared she would expose him. His confession led villagers to the scene, where they found Mrs. Adelugba’s lifeless body.
The suspect was initially detained at the Fagun Police Division before being transferred to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Akure for further investigation.
This tragic incident has left the community in deep sorrow, mourning a woman known for her generosity and hard work. As investigations continue, residents are calling for justice for Mrs. Adelugba.
