
A tragic incident struck the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos today as a four-storey building suddenly collapsed, leaving many occupants trapped and raising fears of multiple fatalities.
Eyewitnesses report that the structure, which houses the well-known Equal Right Restaurant, came crashing down around 11 a.m. on Saturday, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood. The building was said to be under construction at the time of the collapse.
Panic quickly spread as bystanders rushed to help, while emergency services were yet to arrive as of the time of reporting. Residents expressed frustration at the delay in the response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), who had been contacted immediately after the collapse.
One eyewitness, Femi Saheed, described the scene as chaotic, with people screaming and calling for help while others attempted to rescue those buried under the rubble.
Details surrounding the cause of the collapse remain unclear, and it is yet to be confirmed how many people were inside the building when it gave way. Rescue efforts are expected to intensify as emergency responders move in.
