A tragic road accident on Monday night in Kogi State has claimed the lives of six individuals and left five others seriously injured, sending shockwaves through the Adavi Local Government Area.
In a devastating road accident that occurred on Monday night in the Okunchi area of Adavi LGA, Kogi State, six people have been confirmed dead, while five others sustained various degrees of injuries. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) acting Sector Commander in the state, Mr. Samuel Ogundayo, described the incident as “tragic and most unfortunate.”
According to Mr. Ogundayo, the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. and involved no fewer than seven vehicles. The accident began when a truck failed to climb the old Zango hill at Okunchi, reportedly due to a brake failure. The truck lost control and rolled backward, violently crashing into two tricycles, three cars, and eventually colliding with another truck.
The FRSC rescue team, alongside other security agencies, quickly responded to the scene. The injured were promptly transported to the Referral Hospital in Okene, while the remains of the deceased were taken to the Okene General Hospital mortuary.
Efforts were made by the FRSC and security operatives to decongest the traffic gridlock caused by the incident, ensuring the highway was cleared for vehicular movement.
Ogundayo urged motorists to remain vigilant, especially when navigating hilly terrains, and to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to help prevent avoidable tragedies on the roads.
