Tragedy in Kano: Emir Sanusi Summoned by Police Over Sallah Day Violence

The joy of Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Kano was tragically cut short after a disturbing incident left one vigilante dead and another seriously injured.

Now, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, is at the center of a police investigation as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has summoned him to Abuja for questioning.

What Happened?
According to reports, the Emir’s entourage was attacked while returning from the Kofar Mata Eid prayer ground. The vigilantes, who were providing security for the Emir, came under fire.

Sadly, Surajo Rabiu lost his life, while his colleague, Aminu Suleman, was injured and rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital.

Police Take Action
Following the attack, the police arrested a suspect identified as Usman Sagiru in connection with the incident. The police believe he may have played a role in the ambush.

To get to the bottom of the matter, the IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police (FID), sent an invitation letter to Emir Sanusi, asking him to appear at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja by 10 AM on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

The Letter Reads:
“In view of the incident that happened during the Sallah celebration within your domain, you are hereby invited to the Force Intelligence Department, Abuja, for an investigative meeting,” the letter stated.

Still Unfolding…
The police say investigations are ongoing as the public watches closely for answers. For now, the people of Kano – and indeed the nation – await further updates on this unfortunate turn of events.
