The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the death of two actors in Owerri following a meal and drinks consumed after wrapping up a movie shoot.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday night, sending shockwaves through the entertainment industry and beyond.
According to the police spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye, the yet-to-be-identified actors died after attending a post-production party. He revealed that two others were hospitalized, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered a full autopsy by a pathologist to uncover the cause of death. The findings will guide our next steps,” DSP Okoye said.
Reports indicate that the group—four men and three women—had gathered at the residence of the movie director, who allegedly provided rice, wine, and Calypso liquor for the gathering.
It was a celebratory moment turned tragic, as two of the male guests were later found lifeless while the other two were gasping for air.
A witness, Kaito Karisia, shared details of the incident on Facebook. According to him, the movie director had gone to bed early, leaving the group to continue the party. He discovered the tragedy early Friday when he switched off the generator.
Karisia, who visited the hospital, mentioned that one of the survivors told him everyone ate the same rice, took sips of the wine, and Calypso—but the deceased had consumed more of the drink.
Authorities have since arrested the movie director and the three women present at the scene. They are currently assisting with the ongoing investigation.
