Tragedy in Benue: Truck Crash Claims 14 Lives

In a heartbreaking incident early Thursday morning, a truck with registration number Kaduna DKA 738 XB veered off the road and crashed into a residential building in Okete community, Ohimini Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State, killing 14 people.

Details of the Incident

The accident occurred around 5 a.m. when most victims were still asleep. Among the deceased were six individuals in the building and three Muslims observing early morning prayers by the roadside.

The remaining five victims succumbed to injuries at the hospital after being rushed for emergency treatment.

A local source revealed:

> “The suspicion is that the vehicle’s brakes failed, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the house. Community members rescued several individuals trapped under the truck, but sadly, the death toll rose to 14.”

Driver’s Whereabouts Unknown

The truck driver and his assistant reportedly fled the scene, leaving the devastated community to deal with the aftermath. Residents expressed hope that authorities would apprehend the culprits.

Police Statement

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Catherine Anene, stated that investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
