Tinubu Converts Nok University Into Federal Institution
In a major development for Nigeria’s education sector, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the Federal Government to take over Nok University, Kachia, Kaduna State, and transform it into the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.
The decision follows a ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which granted final forfeiture of the privately owned university to the government.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony on Tuesday at the State House, Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized that the move reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
“This is a landmark moment for our nation and for Kaduna State,” Shettima stated. “President Tinubu prioritized this decision, ensuring it became the first agenda item at the Federal Executive Council.”
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) formally transferred the university’s assets to the Federal Government during the event.
University to Begin Operations in 2025
Vice President Shettima assured that academic activities will commence by September 2025, as the President has directed the Minister of Education to ensure the institution is included in the 2025 national budget.
“The university will open its doors to students by September,” Shettima confirmed.
Infrastructure Boost for Southern Kaduna
Beyond education, Shettima reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to infrastructure projects in Southern Kaduna, particularly in road construction.
“Governor Uba Sani is already making progress on critical roads, but President Tinubu has promised to award additional contracts to complete key projects,” he added.
Kaduna Governor Expresses Gratitude
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani hailed the decision, describing it as a historic achievement for the people of Southern Kaduna.
He also praised Vice President Shettima for his unwavering support in making the Federal University of Applied Sciences a reality.
“This marks a new chapter for our people. We will ensure that Kaduna remains inclusive, where everyone’s interests are represented,” Governor Sani said.
The new Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, is expected to serve as a hub for technical and vocational education, equipping students with practical skills for the evolving job market.
