President Bola Tinubu has named Professor Attahiru Jega, a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as his Special Adviser and Coordinator for Presidential Livestock Reform.
This appointment was announced on Friday by Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, who stated that Jega’s role will focus on advancing livestock sector reforms to support national development.
Jega had previously co-chaired the Presidential Livestock Committee alongside Tinubu.
The committee recommended major changes, including the establishment of a dedicated Livestock Ministry to address challenges in the sector.
Apart from his new role, Jega is a former vice chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, and currently serves as the pro-chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education.
He is also a member of the International Elections Advisory Council.
Jega is widely known for his tenure as INEC chairman from 2010 to 2015, during which he oversaw key electoral reforms in Nigeria.
