On Christmas Day, December 25, 2024, in Maiduguri, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), took a moment to honor the remarkable personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). During a Christmas luncheon and Durbar, he described them as “the shield that protects the vulnerable” and the force that keeps chaos at bay. His heartfelt words recognized the sacrifices of the officers, many of whom were away from their families to ensure the safety of the nation during the festive season.
Air Marshal Abubakar praised their unwavering commitment, especially as they continue to serve on the frontlines, even during special times like Christmas. He also acknowledged the sacrifices made by those who have given their lives for the country. He expressed his deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose support has empowered the Armed Forces of Nigeria through welfare improvements, modern military equipment, and enhanced training programs. These efforts, the CAS noted, have strengthened the NAF’s ability to carry out its vital mission.
The CAS also took the opportunity to thank key leaders who have supported the NAF, including the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum. He urged the NAF personnel to remain united and steadfast, assuring them that their sacrifices are deeply appreciated by the entire nation.
The event featured an inspection of the NAF Quarter Guard and briefings at Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) and the 105 Composite Group, where Air Marshal Abubakar commended the personnel for their crucial role in the fight against insurgency. Their efforts, he said, have been key to weakening the insurgents and restoring stability to the region. He also highlighted the NAF’s ongoing focus on improving readiness and welfare.
Governor Zulum, through his representative Professor Usman Tar, expressed heartfelt thanks on behalf of Borno State, recognizing the NAF’s significant role in providing security and humanitarian aid, especially during the recent floods. The Governor reaffirmed the state’s continued support for the armed forces and wished them continued success.
This special Christmas visit not only strengthened the bonds between the NAF and local leaders but also reinforced the commitment of all parties to achieving lasting peace and security in the region.
