Sunday Igboho security clearance has once again become a national topic.
The Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, is appealing to the Federal Government to remove his name from the security redlist.
Speaking during a visit to the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, in Oyo State, Igboho called for help.
He asked the traditional ruler to intervene and help convince the government to lift the restrictions placed on him.
Security Redlist Burdening His Freedom
Igboho expressed frustration over the limitations he faces. According to him, these restrictions are not only unjust but also hinder his ability to contribute to public safety.
“If the Federal Government clears my name, I’ll gladly assist efforts to stop insecurity in the South-West,” he said.
The activist’s remarks came amid reports of rising attacks on farmers by armed herdsmen.
These incidents have become frequent across the region, causing fear and economic hardship.
Igboho warned that unless urgent steps are taken, the situation could escalate further.
Attacks on Farmers Spark Concern
The activist recalled how insecurity has pushed many farmers away from their land. He argued that government efforts alone are not enough.
“We need local support. Our people are suffering, and we cannot sit back. The South-West must be defended,” Igboho stressed.
He believes he can play a key role if given the opportunity. Notably, this is not the first time Igboho has taken a strong stance.
Background: His Rise to National Attention
In early 2021, Sunday Igboho security clearance became an issue after he issued a seven-day ultimatum to criminal herders in Ibarapa, Oyo State.
This move followed a series of violent attacks in the region.
The action earned him both praise and criticism. Many hailed him as a hero who stood up for rural communities. However, the Federal Government viewed his tactics as incitement.
In July 2021, the Department of State Services (DSS) raided his Ibadan residence.
They accused him of stockpiling weapons and planning violence. Two people were killed in the operation. Over 30 others were arrested and taken to Abuja.
Since then, Igboho has remained a divisive but popular figure in Nigeria’s southwest.
Royal Intervention and Hope for Dialogue
At the palace gathering, the Olugbon of Orile Igbon welcomed Igboho’s visit. The monarch commended him for seeking peace through dialogue rather than confrontation.
“We are stronger when we pursue peace and unity,” Oba Francis said.
He promised to speak with relevant authorities and advocate for a peaceful resolution.
According to him, traditional institutions can help bridge gaps where political tension exists.
