In a strong call for national cohesion, His Eminence, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar II, has urged state governors to follow the example of Sokoto State by abolishing the classification of non-indigenes.
According to him, embracing all Nigerians as equal residents will foster unity and strengthen peaceful coexistence.
The Sultan made this appeal during his Sallah visit to Governor Ahmed Aliyu at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Lodge in Sokoto.
He praised the Sokoto State government for treating all Nigerians as indigenes, noting that such an approach gives residents a true sense of belonging.
“In Sokoto, we don’t have non-indigenes; we only have members of the resident communities,” the Sultan affirmed. He encouraged other states to adopt this inclusive model to enhance national harmony and brotherhood.
Security and Welfare Take Center Stage
The Sultan also stressed the importance of security, urging governors to prioritize the protection of lives and property. He commended Governor Aliyu and security agencies for their ongoing efforts in tackling banditry, which has led to significant improvements in the state’s safety.
Furthermore, he applauded the Sokoto State government’s large-scale distribution of food items during Ramadan, describing it as an unprecedented initiative that greatly supported the people.
Caution Against Misinformation
Expressing concern over the misuse of social media, the Sultan warned against the spread of falsehoods and provocative content, which he said could destabilize the nation.
He urged security agencies to remain vigilant and act against individuals using online platforms to incite chaos.
Governor Aliyu’s Commitment to Development
Responding to the Sultan’s remarks, Governor Aliyu reiterated his administration’s dedication to creating a safer and more prosperous Sokoto.
He linked rising insecurity to unemployment and highlighted ongoing skill acquisition programs aimed at empowering youths and reducing restiveness.
“This administration has trained and graduated thousands of youths and women in various trades to make them self-sufficient.
We will soon launch another massive skills acquisition program to further address unemployment,” Governor Aliyu stated.
Additionally, he reassured residents that his government remains committed to advancing Islamic affairs, promising continued support for mosques and Islamiyya schools across the state.
As Nigeria strives for unity and progress, the Sultan’s message serves as a reminder that inclusivity and security remain key pillars for national development.
