Speed Darlington Re-Arrested by Nigerian Police in Owerri

Nigerian singer Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, has been re-arrested by the Nigerian Police in Owerri, Imo State.

The arrest was confirmed by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, through a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Adeyanju revealed that Speed Darlington, popularly known as “Akpi,” was detained upon his return to Nigeria for a scheduled performance.

The exact reasons for his arrest remain unclear, but Adeyanju suggested that Nigerian music star Burna Boy might be involved.

He accused Burna Boy of orchestrating the arrest, describing it as an act of oppression against Darlington.

This development follows a prior incident on October 4, when Speed Darlington was arrested by the Nigerian Police over controversial remarks in a video.

In the video, he alleged that Burna Boy had a personal relationship with American rapper Diddy, which facilitated his international success.

After spending five days in detention, Darlington was released on bail on October 9 and left Nigeria shortly afterward, continuing to criticize Burna Boy while abroad.

The re-arrest has reignited conversations about Darlington’s outspoken nature and his ongoing feud with Burna Boy.

Fans and observers are awaiting further details on the charges or motives behind the singer’s detainment.
