The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has openly condemned the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government, accusing it of mismanagement, poor governance, and neglect of citizens’ welfare.
During a quarterly gathering of both current and former PDP leaders at the party secretariat in Sokoto on Saturday, the state party chairman, Muhammad Goronyo, did not hold back in his criticism.
He described the APC-led administration as “anti-people and anti-progress,” claiming that since taking over power in 2023, the government has failed to deliver meaningful development and has instead worsened the living conditions of the people.
“Governance in Sokoto has deteriorated since we left office,” Goronyo told journalists. “Businesses are being pulled down instead of being supported, job opportunities are vanishing, and people are groaning under economic hardship and increasing insecurity.”
He accused the government of mismanaging local government funds, pointing out that despite reports of supposed savings at the local level, no tangible development has occurred in any of the 23 Local Government Areas in the state.
“In two years, there’s nothing significant to show at the grassroots. Yet, when allocation was delayed for just a month, salaries couldn’t be paid. That tells you everything about the financial mismanagement happening under this administration,” he stated.
Goronyo also took a swipe at the Federal Government’s claim that security across the country has improved, insisting that Sokoto residents are experiencing a very different reality.
“People are being attacked, kidnapped, and killed almost every day. There’s zero response from the government. No support, no empathy. How can they say security has improved?” he asked.
Despite the current state of affairs, the PDP chairman expressed optimism about the future of his party, saying that the PDP is regrouping and getting ready to reclaim power in Sokoto and beyond come 2027.
“This meeting is a step in our plans to re-strategize. PDP remains deeply rooted in Nigeria’s political landscape, and by God’s grace, we’ll come back stronger in 2027,” Goronyo said confidently.
Addressing rumors of a possible political merger, Goronyo firmly dismissed the idea, stating that the PDP will continue to operate under its original identity and remain the most consistent party since 1998.
