Reports from Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State reveal a shocking incident where students of Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe (EMCCO) allegedly assaulted their Physics teacher, Mr. Muktar Salihu, leaving him unconscious.
The students, who are reportedly in Senior Secondary 2 (SS2) and linked to a suspected cult group, reportedly orchestrated the attack as part of a scheme to assert control over the school’s administration.
Alleged Cult Leader Tied to Royalty
Sources have identified the group’s leader as Abdulbatin, reportedly the son of the Opokitipo of Esusu, a traditional ruler in the Okengwe district of Okene.
Mr. Salihu, who was beaten into a coma, is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Calls for Intervention
One of the school’s teachers has appealed to relevant authorities to address the issue urgently.
“We urge the State Ministry of Education, State Education Board, security agencies, and other stakeholders to intervene. This is necessary to bring the perpetrators to justice, prevent future occurrences, and restore discipline in our schools,” the teacher stated.
Police Involvement
NIGPOST gathered that the District Police Officer has taken up the matter, ordering the traditional ruler to present his son for questioning by tomorrow.
This incident highlights growing concerns over student violence and the need for stricter measures to ensure safety and discipline in schools across Nigeria.
