Vice-President Kashim Shettima, on Monday, made a significant appearance in Asaba, Delta State, to officially receive Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other prominent members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Shettima was warmly welcomed at the Asaba International Airport by an impressive delegation. Governors of Nasarawa, Imo, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kogi, Gombe, Lagos, Benue, and Yobe States — all representing APC-controlled territories — gathered to witness the ceremony.
Top APC Leaders Present to Strengthen Party Unity
Joining the governors were top APC figures including Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC; Mr. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives; Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning; and Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
Oborevwori’s Official Defection to APC
Governor Oborevwori’s formal move away from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was initially announced on Wednesday, April 23, during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House, Asaba. Senator James Manager addressed the press after the meeting, confirming the defection and hinting that an official ceremony would soon follow.

Senator Manager emphasized that Governor Oborevwori’s decision to join the ruling APC was made in the best interest of Delta State’s development and to align with national growth strategies.
