Shettima Urges Tinubu: Show Sensitivity, Scrap Policies Burdening Nigerians Amid Hardship.

Shettima Calls on Tinubu to Drop Unfavorable Policies and Address Nigerians’ Plight.

The National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Comrade Yerima Shettima, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to exhibit greater sensitivity to the struggles of ordinary Nigerians by introducing policies that foster hope and relief.

Speaking in an interview with The Sun, Shettima criticized the current administration’s policies, asserting that many of them fail to inspire confidence in the Nigerian populace.

He emphasized the importance of policies that genuinely alleviate the economic and social hardships faced by citizens.

“There is nothing wrong with discarding policies that do not bring hope to the people,” Shettima remarked.

“The government must adopt strategies that allow Nigerians to breathe and thrive.”

Contextualizing Economic Challenges

Shettima cautioned against blindly adopting policy models that may have succeeded in other nations, stressing that such approaches might not suit Nigeria’s unique economic and social realities.

“This country is immensely blessed, and there is no justification for the suffering of Nigerians if the government chooses to be more responsive to their needs,” he said.

Acknowledging the administration’s limited time in office, Shettima admitted it might be premature to fully evaluate its performance.

However, he called for tangible progress to inspire hope among the people.

“The government must demonstrate leadership that uplifts and reassures Nigerians amidst the ongoing hunger and insecurity,” he added.

The Burden of Past Failures

Shettima also attributed the current economic woes to the policies of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

He warned that reversing the damage done by the previous administration would be an arduous task, likely requiring more than a single term.

“The government cannot undo the harm caused by the Buhari regime as easily as Nigerians might expect,” Shettima explained.

“However, Nigerians should begin to see deliberate efforts toward relief, improvement, and policies that foster hope.”

A Call for Leadership and Action

Concluding his remarks, Shettima reiterated the need for the Tinubu administration to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians by crafting policies that address the core issues of hunger, insecurity, and economic deprivation.

“The onus is on this government to raise the bar of leadership and inspire confidence among the people,” he said.

This call aligns with growing demands from various quarters for the Tinubu-led government to rethink its economic strategies and implement measures that ease the burdens on Nigerians.
