Shehu Sani Eyes Return to Senate in 2027, Sets Conditions for Kaduna Central Comeback

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has hinted at making a political comeback in the 2027 elections, stating that his decision depends on the political landscape at the time.

Speaking at his Kaduna residence during his Eid-el-Fitr address on Sunday, Sani shared his thoughts on the future, saying:

“Any politician contesting an election depends on the political equation that determines the position to vie for. If the conditions are right and the equations are favourable, I will offer myself to contest specifically for the Kaduna Central senatorial district.”

A Look Back: Sani’s Political Journey

Shehu Sani previously served as Kaduna Central’s senator from 2015 to 2019, but his political rift with former Governor Nasir El-Rufai led to his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC), ultimately costing him his seat.

Focus on Uba Sani’s Re-election

Despite his Senate ambition, Shehu Sani emphasized that his current priority is ensuring the re-election of Governor Uba Sani for a second term.

“For now, our priority is to see that the incumbent governor, Uba Sani, is re-elected. We will work with all our might and strength to achieve this. We know there will be challenges and opposition, but we are well prepared for all forces,” he asserted.

Call for National Unity & Security

Sani used the Eid-el-Fitr occasion to urge Muslims to pray for national harmony and stability.

He also condemned the killing of hunters in Edo State, calling on security forces to track down and prosecute the perpetrators.

“If citizens cannot move freely across the country, then we are not truly a nation. If individuals take the law into their hands for any reason, it means there is no government or authority,” he remarked.

Advocating for Human Rights

The former senator further appealed to the government to uphold fundamental human rights, particularly the right to life, as a critical step toward stability and national progress.

Shehu Sani’s remarks signal political ambitions that could shape Kaduna’s Senate race in 2027. Will the political equation be in his favor? Time will tell.
