The 10th Nigerian Senate has officially postponed its resumption date from the earlier scheduled April 29, 2025, to a new date—Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
This change was communicated through an internal circular dated April 20, 2025, signed by the Clerk of the Senate, Andrew Ogbonna Nwoba.
The memo, addressed to all senators, cited the upcoming International Workers’ Day celebration on May 1 and the need for lawmakers to fully engage with their constituents during this period as reasons for the shift.
The circular stated:
“Distinguished Senators, I am directed to inform you that the resumption of plenary sittings of the Senate, earlier scheduled for Monday, 29th April 2025, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, 6th May 2025.
This postponement is made to allow Distinguished Senators to stay with their constituents during the International Workers’ Day public holiday in the first week of May and to further enhance constituency engagements.
Distinguished Senators are kindly requested to take note of this postponement while regretting any inconvenience the change might have caused.”
The adjustment is seen as a move to prioritize national observances and local-level representation, allowing lawmakers to align with the spirit of Workers’ Day and maintain close ties with their communities.
