Saburi Under Siege: Residents Plead for Wike’s Help as Robberies Escalate
The once-peaceful community of Saburi, FCT, is now a hotspot for violent gang robberies, leaving residents in a state of fear and frustration.

Since the start of 2025, armed gangs have stormed homes at least four times, carting away valuables worth millions of Naira.

A Community Under Attack

The first major attack happened on New Year’s Eve, when masked gunmen ambushed residents returning from church on Ikejani Street, Osumeayi Street, and Sani Abacha Lane.

The brutality of these attacks has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood.

• A security guard was attacked and nearly blinded during one of the raids.
• A resident was shot while trying to secure his home.
• Gangs of 40 to 50 armed men have been involved in some of the robberies.

Delayed Police Response Fuels Outrage

Residents claim that despite multiple calls for help, the police response has been slow and ineffective.

According to Markus Okechukwu, a community leader, the police often arrive after the robbers have already fled.

“We have reported every attack, but by the time police arrive, the criminals are long gone,” Okechukwu lamented.

Many residents have also accused law enforcement of using jurisdiction issues as an excuse to avoid intervening.

A Desperate Plea to Wike

With the security situation worsening, residents are now begging FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to take immediate action.

They are calling for:

✅ Stronger police presence in Saburi.

✅ Installation of security gates at key entry points.

✅ A full government inspection of the affected areas.

“If we are not secure, we cannot enjoy any other development in this area. We need gates to prevent criminals from entering freely,” Okechukwu pleaded.

Residents have also noticed suspicious individuals posing as scavengers, who they believe are gathering information for future attacks.

A History of Crime and a Community on Edge

Saburi has long struggled with security issues, including kidnappings in the past.

In response, residents previously installed three security gates, but they were later removed—leaving the community exposed.

Now, they fear for their lives and are urgently calling on the government to restore law and order before the situation spirals further out of control.
