Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has attributed the resolution of the state’s recent political crisis to divine intervention. Speaking at the Christmas Ballad hosted by former Governor Dr. Peter Odili in Port Harcourt, Fubara emphasized that God had been instrumental in safeguarding the state from those attempting to destabilize it.
He expressed confidence in a brighter future for Rivers State, assuring citizens that his administration would continue to prioritize their well-being. According to Fubara, the joy experienced during the festive season is a sign of better days ahead.
“God is the ultimate Liberator,” Fubara remarked in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi. “With His guidance, we have overcome adversities and will continue to uplift the state. Governance is not about tyranny but about serving the people and paving the way for a better tomorrow.”
Odili Praises Fubara’s Leadership
Dr. Peter Odili, in his welcome address, commended Governor Fubara for his resilience and leadership during a tumultuous year. He recalled the fierce political battle of October 2023, describing it as an unnecessary quest by an individual to control Rivers State. Odili highlighted how Fubara’s steadfastness prevented the state from being privatized, restored governance stability, and improved the lives of civil servants and residents.
The former governor and his family hosted Fubara as a gesture of appreciation for his efforts in preserving the state’s integrity.
Call for South-South Unity
Governor Fubara also used the occasion to advocate for stronger collaboration among South-South states. Addressing a delegation led by Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Fubara stressed the importance of regional cooperation in tackling shared challenges such as security and infrastructure.
“Development cannot be isolated,” Fubara stated. “We need a unified approach across states like Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, and Edo to address issues effectively. The BRACED Commission should be revitalized to ensure sustainable progress.”
Governor Diri echoed these sentiments, noting that peace and mutual understanding between Rivers and Bayelsa have been restored, particularly regarding the contentious Soku oil wells.
Wike Responds
In a related development, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, is expected to respond to comments made by Dr. Odili. Wike’s aide, Lere Olayinka, criticized Odili for his remarks, describing them as partisan and unbecoming of an elder statesman.
Olayinka assured that Wike would provide an appropriate response in due course.
