The Rivers State Police Command has taken action against one of its officers for allegedly shooting and killing Bright Egbule, a father of six, in Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The tragic incident sparked outrage among local youths, who took to the streets early Sunday morning, blocking the Port Harcourt-Owerri Road in protest.
They had initially attempted to deposit Egbule’s body at the Omagwa Police Station but were prevented from doing so.
In response, Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that the officer involved has been detained while investigations are underway.
She reassured residents that the Commissioner of Police is fully engaged with the matter.
“The command is aware, and the CP is on top of the situation. Normalcy has now been restored, and adequate security is in place to prevent any further unrest,” Iringe-Koko stated.
She further disclosed that the victim’s body has been moved to the morgue, while the police continue their investigation.
