PORT HARCOURT— The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has accused the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibom Ibas (retd.), of systematically dismantling governance structures put in place by the suspended Governor, Siminialayi Fubara.
The party also called out Dr. George Nweke, the immediate past Head of Service in the state, labeling him a serial betrayer.
According to the PDP, Nweke has allegedly become a tool for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in spreading misinformation against Fubara and his administration.
PDP Chairman Reacts to Allegations
Rivers PDP Chairman, Nname Ewor, expressed concerns over allegations made by Nweke against Fubara, the PDP, and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Ewor condemned the state of emergency imposed by President Bola Tinubu and questioned the motives behind it.
“The state is neither at war nor facing any natural disaster to warrant such a declaration. This action appears politically motivated,” Ewor stated.
He also challenged the effectiveness of the measures taken by the Sole Administrator, questioning whether they were truly aimed at restoring peace or merely exacerbating the crisis.
Addressing Nweke’s Claims
Ewor dismissed allegations that Governor Fubara was involved in the bombing of the House of Assembly, calling them baseless.
He accused Nweke of reading a scripted narrative orchestrated to discredit Fubara and turn public opinion against him.
“Nweke, compromised and used as a political pawn, falsely accused Governor Fubara of orchestrating the attack on the House of Assembly.
The truth is, those arrested in connection with the bombing were charged to court and eventually released due to lack of diligent prosecution,” Ewor explained.
He further debunked claims that Fubara had pledged allegiance to Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Senator Bala Mohammed, for the 2027 elections.
“Governor Fubara and Bala Mohammed have the right to meet and discuss party affairs. There is no indication that Bala Mohammed has declared any presidential ambition,” he noted.
Legal Expert Condemns Tinubu’s Decision
Meanwhile, retired judge Justice Miakpor Emiaso has criticized President Tinubu’s decision to release Rivers State allocations to the Sole Administrator, calling it unconstitutional.
“It is unlawful. The constitution does not recognize a Sole Administrator governing a state. The suspension of a duly elected governor is a dangerous precedent that undermines democracy,” Justice Emiaso stated.
He warned that allowing the president to suspend an elected governor at will poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s democratic process. “There is a legal process for removing an elected official, and suspension is not part of it,” he added.
Political Tensions Escalate
As the political crisis in Rivers State deepens, PDP insists that the alleged actions against Fubara are politically motivated.
The party has vowed to continue exposing what it describes as deliberate attempts to destabilize the state’s leadership.
