Rangers Football Club is reportedly prepared to part ways with Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers during the upcoming January transfer window. Dessers, who joined the Scottish Premiership side in 2023, has amassed 22 goals and nine assists over 54 appearances. Despite this record, he has struggled to win over the Ibrox faithful.
The recent rise of Hamza Igamane and the return to fitness of Danilo have limited Dessers’ playing time. In the team’s last six matches, he has accumulated only 84 minutes on the pitch. With his contract extending until June 2027, Rangers are now open to offers for the 30-year-old forward.
French Ligue 1 club Saint-Etienne has expressed strong interest in acquiring Dessers. Reports suggest that Rangers are seeking a fee close to £3.5 million for the striker. Saint-Etienne, currently struggling in the league, view Dessers as a potential solution to their offensive challenges.
Dessers’ recent performances have drawn criticism from fans, particularly after Rangers’ defeat to Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup Final. His absence from the initial five penalty takers during the shoot-out was notably questioned.
As the January transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Dessers will remain at Ibrox or seek opportunities elsewhere.
