Osogbo Protest Over Alleged Shooting of Transport Management Chairman
A protest erupted in Osogbo today as members of the Osun State Transport Management System expressed outrage over the alleged shooting of their chairman, Wakeel Nurudeen Alowonle.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night during his detention by the Osun State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
Protesters blocked the expressway at Aregbe Park, disrupting traffic and halting commercial transportation. Private vehicles were sporadically allowed through, but eyewitnesses described the scene as tense. Muhammad Jamiu, an observer, stated, “The road has been blocked, and the presence of police is necessary to prevent further escalation.”
Alowonle had been arrested for alleged possession of a police pistol and ammunition. However, the Osun State government, through Commissioner Kolapo Alimi, accused the police of nearly killing Alowonle in custody over what was termed a domestic matter.
