President Tinubu to Represent Nigeria at Africa Energy Summit in Tanzania

President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Sunday, January 26, 2025, for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27–28.

The summit, jointly organized by the Tanzanian government, the African Development Bank Group, and the World Bank, will focus on advancing “Mission 300,” a goal to ensure electricity access for 300 million Africans by 2030.

A statement from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga highlights that African leaders, private sector stakeholders, and development partners will use the summit as a platform to strategize on accelerating energy access across underserved regions.

Discussions will cover renewable energy, energy efficiency, and mobilizing private sector investment.

The summit will unfold in two phases:

Day 1: Ministerial representatives from participating countries will present national energy strategies, referred to as “compacts,” detailing plans to achieve universal energy access within five years.

Day 2: African Heads of State will endorse the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, creating a unified roadmap for achieving the Mission 300 objectives.

President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national statement reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to universal energy access and its leadership in Africa’s energy sector.

He will also emphasize Nigeria’s ongoing clean energy initiatives and its integrated energy delivery strategy for the continent.

Accompanying the president on this important trip are Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, Special Adviser on Energy Olu Verheijen, and other senior government officials.

President Tinubu will return to Abuja upon conclusion of the summit.
