A Royal Visit to Lagos On Sunday, January 5, 2025, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, visited President Bola Tinubu at his residence in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State. The meeting was private, held behind closed doors.
Acknowledging a Prestigious Honor The visit was an opportunity for the Awujale to express his profound appreciation to President Tinubu and the federal government.
A statement from the Aafin Awujale, signed by Tunde Oladunjoye, Onigegewura Akile Ijebu, highlighted the monarch’s gratitude for being awarded the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), Nigeria’s second-highest national honor, on May 10, 2023.
Celebrating a Historic Milestone The prestigious honor was conferred upon the Awujale during the celebration of his 90th birthday anniversary and his remarkable 64 years on the throne as the longest-reigning first-class monarch in Nigeria.
The event, which took place on his birthday, was graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu at the ceremony.
Tinubu’s Ongoing Appreciation for Awujale It is worth recalling that President Tinubu began his nationwide consultations with the Awujale during his bid for the presidency.
Following his election, Tinubu kept his promise and returned to the Aafin Awujale in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, to show his continued appreciation to the monarch.
