David Coote, a well-known Premier League referee, has been dismissed by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) after an investigation into allegations of misconduct.
The inquiry began after a video surfaced online showing Coote allegedly making critical remarks about Liverpool Football Club and their former manager, Jürgen Klopp. Adding to the controversy, photos emerged appearing to show him with a suspicious white substance during the European Championship, raising further questions about his conduct.
PGMOL determined that these actions breached the terms of Coote’s contract, leading to his dismissal. However, he retains the right to appeal the decision should he choose to dispute the ruling.
This incident underscores the league’s commitment to maintaining professionalism and integrity among its referees, highlighting the pressures of upholding high standards in English football.
