In a heartbreaking incident in Ado Ekiti, a police officer’s gun accidentally discharged, killing a young woman, Ifeoluwa Adekalu, in front of a shop across from Okela Police Station. The officer, who has not been identified yet, was reportedly in a celebratory mood after hearing about a colleague’s promotion when the tragic event unfolded.
Witnesses revealed that Ifeoluwa had just finished paying her accommodation rent and was walking by the police station when the bullet struck her. Some reports mention that she had just stepped off a commercial motorcycle and was heading toward the station when the gun went off.
Immediately after the incident, Ifeoluwa was rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, she could not be saved. Her untimely death has left her family and the community in shock.
The police officer responsible for the fatal discharge has been disarmed and taken into custody. Ekiti’s Commissioner of Police, Adewale Adeniran, confirmed the tragedy and assured the public that the officer would undergo proper investigations according to the Nigerian Police Act.
This tragic loss serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences of such preventable incidents, and the family and friends of Ifeoluwa are left grappling with the unimaginable.
