In a significant breakthrough, the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended 35-year-old Ogaga Dickson, a member of a notorious armed robbery syndicate linked to the death of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Hassan Jega, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho Division in Delta State.
Jega was tragically killed during a gun battle between police operatives and the robbers on October 14, 2024, while trying to thwart a robbery operation.
The police spokesperson, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed that Dickson and other suspects were arrested after a fierce gun duel between police forces and the gang, which resulted in the neutralization of four gang members.
Following his arrest, police recovered a variety of weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, a pistol, a locally made firearm, multiple rounds of ammunition, and six high-end vehicles from the gang’s hideout.
In another operation, the police successfully dismantled a child-trafficking syndicate on December 2, 2024.
Led by Pastor Dayo Bernard of the End Time Army Ministry in Bukuru, Plateau State, the syndicate had been involved in abducting and trafficking young children.
The operation resulted in the rescue of five children, aged between 2 and 4 years old, who were kidnapped from different homes in Jos, Plateau State.
Pastor Bernard and other syndicate members, including Rita Agboeze, Victoria Ugwu, Nanman Puntel, and Peter Ukwuani, were arrested.
During questioning, Bernard confessed to abducting and selling 13 children at varying prices, all of whom have since been reunited with their families through the Plateau State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
ACP Adejobi emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to combating crime and enhancing public safety through improved strategies and effective crime-fighting operations.
These efforts have successfully disrupted criminal networks, leading to a decline in organized and violent crimes, and contributing to improved security nationwide.
Further demonstrating their resolve, Adejobi highlighted that in accordance with the directive from the Inspector General of Police, operatives from the Force Intelligence Department (FID) and Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have recovered 14 additional AK-47 rifles, part of ongoing efforts to mop up illicit arms circulating in the country.
“These operations reflect the determined efforts of the Nigeria Police Force to combat crime and safeguard national security,” Adejobi added.
