Security operatives in Kano have arrested a suspect, Usman Sagiru, in connection with the killing of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu, and an attack on the entourage of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.
Incident During Eid Procession
According to Kano State Police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna, the incident occurred as local guards were providing security for Emir Sanusi II’s convoy after the Eid-el-Fitr prayers.
“While dispersing from the Eid praying ground, Usman Sagiru and others, now at large, allegedly stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, who later succumbed to his injuries.
Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is receiving medical attention,” Haruna stated.
Ongoing Investigation
The Kano State Police Command has launched an investigation and invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning regarding the incident.
“The police have arrested Usman Sagiru, 20, of Sharifai Quarters, in connection with the attack and killing of the vigilante member.
The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the accomplices still at large,” Haruna confirmed.
Strict Ban on Durbar and Thuggery
Reiterating the government’s stance, the police warned that the ban on all forms of Durbar activities remains in force. Any individual or group found violating the directive will face legal consequences.
“Additionally, acts of thuggery (Daba) will not be tolerated. Anyone engaging in activities that may disrupt public peace or lead to lawlessness will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” the police spokesperson emphasized.

The Kano State Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security in the state.
