The Rivers State Police Command has arrested four individuals in connection with the gruesome murder of two seven-year-old children, Chizaram Onuche and Chidinma Onuche, for alleged ritual purposes.
According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the suspects were apprehended by the anti-kidnapping unit in Port Harcourt.
The investigation revealed that the suspects, including a native doctor, lured and drugged the minors before carrying out the horrific act.
How the Tragic Incident Unfolded
One of the suspects, 27-year-old Aniekan Uko from Akwa Ibom State, allegedly led the children to an uncompleted building in the Rukpokwu area of Port Harcourt, where he drugged them with an energy drink called Black Bullet before slaughtering and dismembering them.
He reportedly collected their blood in a bottle as part of the ritual process.
Following his arrest, Uko confessed that he was introduced to ritual killings by a native doctor, Kingsley Opurum, 43, from Etche, Rivers State. Police operatives later arrested Opurum on March 23 for his role in the crime.
More Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
Further investigations led to the arrest of Aniekan’s girlfriend and one Friday Silas, 47, the owner of the uncompleted building where the killings took place.
Police officers who visited the crime scene recovered disturbing evidence, including a bottle filled with the victims’ blood, an empty Black Bullet drink container, and a spoon used for scooping blood.
The bodies of the two minors have been deposited at the mortuary for an autopsy.
Police Assure Justice for Victims
The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olesegun Adepoju, has assured the public that the suspects will face the full weight of the law.
“Investigations are ongoing to uncover any other accomplices involved in this heinous crime,” Iringe-Koko stated.
