Seyi Tinubu’s 2027 Lagos Governorship Ambitions Met with Resistance
The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced strong opposition to any plans to install Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, as the next governor of Lagos in 2027.
This follows recent endorsements from groups like the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, which publicly supported Seyi’s candidacy, suggesting he could even consider running in states like Osun or Imo, where his family has ties.
Another group, Friends of Seyi Tinubu, praised him for his leadership qualities.
However, these endorsements have sparked backlash.
Lagos PDP spokesperson Hakeem Amode rejected the idea, stressing that Lagos would not accept a dynastic political succession.
He questioned whether it was appropriate for governorship positions to be passed down from parent to child, highlighting that many Lagosians had not supported President Tinubu in the 2023 elections, signaling a lack of enthusiasm for his son as governor.
In addition, the Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths condemned the idea, arguing that Lagos should be governed by indigenes rather than outsiders.
The Lagos APC, however, dismissed the matter as premature, urging focus on supporting the current government.
Prominent APC figure Joe Igbokwe also criticized the push for Seyi’s candidacy, suggesting it was a distraction aimed at undermining President Tinubu’s leadership.
As the debate over Seyi Tinubu’s potential political future unfolds, the conversation is expected to intensify as the 2027 elections draw closer.
