In a heartbreaking turn of events, nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of a 70-year-old woman, Madam Rachael Bamidele, and the destruction of homes in Aagba, a peaceful community in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the arrests on Thursday, revealing that the violent attack took place on April 5, 2025.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Adewale Osifeso, the chaos erupted due to a lingering land dispute between Aagba and a neighboring community.
What started as a land disagreement quickly escalated into a deadly assault that claimed the life of Madam Bamidele. In addition, nine houses were set ablaze and looted, leaving families displaced and properties worth millions destroyed.
Reports indicate that the victims were targeted for their involvement in a court case regarding the disputed land.
Reacting swiftly, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Johnson Adenola, dispatched tactical and intelligence teams—including members of the Police Mobile Force—to the scene.
Their presence helped calm the situation and allowed some displaced residents to return to their homes under safer conditions.
One of the arrested suspects has been identified as 33-year-old Salawudeen Ismaila from Oko community. During the police operation, officers also recovered three unregistered Boxer motorcycles believed to have been used in the attack.
Meanwhile, the police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and efforts to apprehend others still at large are in full gear.
The command also reiterated its firm stance against violence, promising continued protection of lives and property across the state.
