Over 500 former employees of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) in Ile-Ife have filed a lawsuit against the hospital management, alleging unlawful termination of their employment.
The claimants, represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Sola Ojutalayo, requested the National Industrial Court in Ibadan to order their reinstatement and the payment of all pending entitlements.
According to their statement, the workers were employed between October and December 2022 but were dismissed on January 31, 2024, without any justification from the management.

During the hearing on Tuesday, four exhibits were presented, with Ojutalayo leading one of the claimants, Mr. Ogunleye Samson, as a witness. However, the defense counsel, Mr. Ejike Orji, contested the admissibility of two exhibits, arguing that they were unsigned.
Ojutalayo countered by stating that the defense only examined the first pages of the documents and ignored the signatures on subsequent pages.
Justice John Peters, presiding over the case, ruled in favor of the claimants, confirming that the exhibits—detailing employment dates and salary agreements—were signed and admissible.

While being cross-examined, Samson revealed that he was not placed on probation and had never received a salary during his tenure. He added that the hospital management failed to provide any reason for his dismissal.
The judge adjourned the case to February 11 for further hearing.
