Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised concerns over an alleged plot by Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, to incite unrest in the state.
Adeleke made this claim during a press conference on Sunday, February 16, 2025, warning that Oyetola and certain security officials were working together to enforce a controversial court ruling.
The Allegations Against Oyetola
According to Adeleke, Oyetola is leading efforts to reinstate sacked local government chairmen affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor alleges that this move is being backed by security operatives, including:
- The Osun State Commissioner of Police
- The State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS)
- The State Commandant of the Civil Defense Corps
Adeleke accused Oyetola of issuing illegal directives to enforce a non-existent court ruling, claiming the minister is using his connection to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to manipulate the situation.
Adeleke’s Warning to the Public
Speaking on the matter, Governor Adeleke stated:
“I call on the national and global community to take note of a deliberate plot to create chaos and anarchy in Osun State. Oyetola, in collaboration with some security operatives, is planning to use force to reinstate sacked council chairmen.
These officials were dismissed before my tenure, contrary to the lies being spread.”
He further emphasized that President Tinubu is a democrat who upholds the rule of law and would not support any unconstitutional actions.
However, he expressed concerns that Oyetola’s alleged actions could lead to bloodshed if not checked.
Osun APC Reacts
The Osun APC has dismissed Adeleke’s claims, stating that the governor is misusing state power to suppress opposition.
They warned that his administration’s actions could lead to political instability in the state.
