The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has pledged his steadfast support to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in its efforts to combat insecurity across the nation. This assurance was made during a courtesy visit by the Osun State NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Igbalawole Sotiyo, to the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife.
During the visit, Mr. Sotiyo emphasized the critical role traditional rulers play in ensuring the safety and security of their communities. He pointed out that traditional leaders maintain a strong bond with grassroots communities, making them indispensable in gathering intelligence and curbing criminal activities.
“The involvement of traditional rulers in our security framework cannot be overstated. Their closeness to the people provides them with firsthand information, which is key to tackling security challenges effectively,” Sotiyo noted.
Oba Ogunwusi, while addressing the NSCDC delegation, reiterated his commitment to fostering peace and security within and beyond his domain. He highlighted that national security is a collective effort and urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies to achieve a crime-free society.
“As traditional rulers, our duty extends beyond cultural preservation. We must support initiatives that ensure the safety and well-being of our people. I assure the NSCDC of my unwavering support in this mission to secure our land,” the Ooni stated.
The monarch further called for stronger collaboration between traditional institutions and security agencies, noting that such partnerships are essential to addressing the root causes of insecurity.
The visit underscores the importance of engaging traditional authorities in the fight against insecurity, as their influence and local knowledge are invaluable assets to law enforcement agencies.
