Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, has expressed excitement about President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Enugu State today, hoping it will bring positive developments, including the potential release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
According to a statement from Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, President Tinubu will commission several projects initiated by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration during his one-day visit.
Ohanaeze, in a statement from its National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, expressed optimism about the federal government’s improving stance toward the Igbo people. The organization emphasized that national peace, unity, and sustainable development are results of equity and social justice. They further stated that no group can thrive under the threat of marginalization and deprivation, and that the President’s visit is a chance to demonstrate goodwill toward the Igbo community.
The group hopes that the President’s visit will lead to Nnamdi Kanu’s release, which they believe would solidify Tinubu’s legacy in the hearts of Ndigbo and other Nigerians who value unity.
