Ogun Police Arrest Truck Driver and Motor Boy for Beating Man to Death Over Alleged Theft

A tragic incident in Ogun State has led to the arrest of a truck driver, Olalere Timileyin, and his motor boy after they allegedly beat a man to death for stealing a tarpaulin.

The incident unfolded early on Friday, December 13, 2024, in Obada Oko, Abeokuta. According to police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, a local resident, Alao Fadipe, was the first to notice a commotion near his house around 3 AM. Upon investigating, he found Timileyin and his motor boy assaulting a man on the road. The two were allegedly punishing the victim for stealing a tarpaulin from their truck.

The victim, who was beaten severely, lost consciousness during the assault. Fadipe immediately reported the situation to the authorities, and officers from Obada Oko responded swiftly, arresting both Timileyin and his motor boy at the scene.

The victim was rushed to the State Hospital in Ijaye for treatment, but sadly, he passed away while receiving medical care. His body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.

Timileyin and his motor boy are currently in police custody, where they are being questioned. The police have assured that efforts are underway to contact the family of the deceased for further steps. The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) at Eleweran for further investigation.

In light of this unfortunate event, the Ogun State Police Command is urging residents to avoid violence, particularly during the holiday season, in order to maintain peace and safety across the state.
