The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has declared its intention to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the forthcoming 2026 governorship election.
The bold statement was made on Thursday during the inauguration of new NNPP offices in Ila, Boripe, and Ifelodun local government areas.
Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, the NNPP Chairman in Osun, highlighted the perceived failings of the incumbent administration and the economic difficulties across Nigeria as factors working in the party’s favor.
He criticized the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) government for what he called “limited capacity to improve governance” in the state.
Odeyemi also asserted that the economic struggles under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the federal level have further disillusioned voters.
“We in NNPP are optimistic about our chances in the 2026 poll.
The current economic hardship is demarketing the APC at the federal level, while the PDP administration in Osun has shown limited capacity to improve governance.
This gives us an edge as we gear up to end Governor Adeleke’s reign,” Odeyemi stated.
He encouraged NNPP members to remain committed, assuring them of a brighter political future in Osun State.
In response, the Osun State chapter of the PDP dismissed the NNPP’s claims, labeling them as empty threats.
Speaking to journalists, Oladele Bamiji, the PDP’s Director of Media and Publicity, defended Governor Adeleke’s performance since taking office, emphasizing his achievements in governance.
“They are just trying to please their sponsors.
The NNPP cannot stop the re-election of a performing governor like Senator Ademola Adeleke.
The people of Osun will not allow anyone to derail the progress the state is currently enjoying,” Bamiji said.
The exchanges between the two parties underline the growing political tension in Osun as preparations for the 2026 governorship election gather momentum.
The NNPP’s confidence and the PDP’s dismissal set the stage for what promises to be a highly contested election, reflecting the evolving dynamics of Osun State’s political landscape.
